I believe the two facets of learning cannot be separated. The emotional
and cognitive sides of the brain are like two different gears in a machine. The machine will break down if both
are not oiled and maintained. Each student will feel that I like them and I will give each one a reason why I find them
appealing. I will will do this by evaluating their learning styles and discovering about their home lives to determine
their motivations behind their actions. It is often easier to like someone when you can understand the conflicts
they are dealing with.
We will work as a unified learning community where each person learns
from the others. This will include me and I will be sure they know when they have taught me something of value.
My students will begin to view mistakes or poor grades not as the end of a very bad trip but just another opportunity to guide
their learning. Assessments will be used as learning tools, so misconceptions will be corrected.
Our classroom will become a safe, encouraging haven free from petty
judgements and each child will learn to take control of their own erudition. With the help of my research-based,
well-planned lessons and kind demeanor, they will summarize, evaluate and create to become beneficial members of
society and lifelong learners.
